Our first week in the village of Kilimatinde was unforgettable. The entire village was waiting to greet us at the church when we arrived! Everyone we met had a smile on their face and was excited to welcome us into their home. We were even honored with an invitation to join in the celebrations surrounding a recent male circumcision ceremony. At the ceremony, we were welcomed into the boma where we were served pop and native drinks. We were having so much fun watching all of the dancing, that some of the men and women invited us to join! We were allowed to borrow traditional Masai jewelry and learned a few new dance steps! It was unreal to be able to take part in cultural events I have only ever read about! We were only invited to such a special celebration because the community recognized Global Service Corps efforts in their village to have the honest intention of improving their lives.
