Immersed in Cambodia

GSC’s Sustainable Agriculture-Food Security program has immersed me directly into a rural community just outside of Phnom Penh, where poverty and food insecurity persists.  I have been exposed to the true realities and hurdles the rural poor experience such as class, political, gender, and economic discrimination and lack of health care access, proper education, a diversified food source and effective infrastructure.  GSCs development program has allowed me to help address some of these hurdles.  However, the success of the program and thus alleviating poverty not only depends on GSCs continual work and presence, but, also, the volunteer’s persistence to see the program through and patience with the people whom s/he will interact and educate.
