The best part of my experience in Tanzania was actually working closely with Tanzanians. I have done volunteer trips to Tanzania before but my counterparts and fellow volunteers were mostly American. I loved that most of the GSC staff is Tanzanian. I really formed some close friendships with them and learned so much from them. I think my best insight into Tanzanian culture and daily life was my homestay family. My host family was pretty well off for a Tanzanian family, so I know that their lifestyle is nothing like life in the village, but it was still fascinating to experience how an urban family lives in Tanzania.
